Four Sisters of Notre Dame
In 1961, four Sisters of Notre Dame from the Toledo province in the United States arrived in the Banz area of
Papua New Guinea. They and those missionaries who followed after them came in a spirit of joy
and trust to give witness to God's caring love in this remote area. Since 1973 Young New Guinea Women
have joined the congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame to continue to witness to God's goodness in this beautiful
land. Though the Church is still young in the highlands regions of Papua New Guinea, we hope to grow as a community to bring
Jesus to more people in this land.

The young New Guinea women are basically the same as any other woman around the world. They have families, jobs, careers,
hopes and dreams. But they have a lower standing in New Guinea society, some New Guinea women are seen as more property than a human being.
