Emancipated Women
In January 2004, the Moroccan parliament passed a new law governing family rights and matters of personal identity.
Theoretically, Morocco's women are now among the most emancipated in the Arabian world.
 Husbands and wives are made jointly and equally responsible
for their households and families. The previous duties of wives to obey their husbands has been abolished.
Men and women can enter marriage of their own free will
and with equal rights. The Bride in Morocco no longer require the permission of a male legal guardian, but may have
themselves "given away" if they so desire. Polygamy will be
starkly restricted.
