In 1990, Carol Gist of Detroit, Michigan USA, then Miss Michigan USA made history by becoming the first
African American woman to win the Miss USA title. Black women hold both the Miss USA and Miss America
titles in the same title year, Carole Gist, Miss USA 1990 and Debbye Turner, Miss America 1990. African
American women (Debbye Turner and Marjorie Vincent) win back-to-back Miss America titles (1990, 1991).

Kenya Moore won Miss Michigan 1993, Miss USA 1993 and finished 4th place in Miss Universe 1993. Her grandmother a primary inspiration in Kenya's life
raised Kenya. Black Detroit models Kenya, who is of African and Native American ancestry, enjoys as hobbies singing and
dancing.
A psychology major at Wayne State University, Founder of the Kenya Moore foundation which awards scholarships to
under privileged girls from her high school alma-mater. A graduate of Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan.
Alumni include Diana Ross, David Allen Greer, Lily Tomlin and Ed Gordon.
Kenya as featured in films and TV shows from 1994 to present day, boasting 24 appearances including "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"
1994, "Senseless" 1998, "The Jamie Foxx Show" 1999 and Brothers in Arms just to name a few. As well as been a actress
Kenya has also produced Brothers in Arms (2005) (co-producer), Hot Parts (2003) (V) (associate producer) and
Trois (2000) (associate producer).
